Q: I'm on our prom planning committee, so I really want to go. But I still don't have a date. My mom says her friend's son is a nice guy. Is it totally pathetic to take a blind date to the prom?
A: Of course it's not pathetic! If you want to go to the prom, you should -- and if a blind date is the lucky guy that gets to take you, great! To avoid any problems or mismatched chemistry, you might consider setting up a pre-prom date with Mr. Nice Guy, just to get to know each other. If you get along well enough to follow through with a full-on prom date, then it's all systems go!
A word of caution: If you think you're going to feel awkward all night because you're on a blind date, it may not be worth the aggravation. You'll have to decide which is worse: Going to prom and feeling uneasy, or staying home and feeling left out. (Of course, we think it can be great to go stag -- you're an independent woman and a date is definitely not a requirement for fun!)
