Prom Spot - Why He Hasn’t Asked You to Prom Yet

Oh, the possibilities -- they keep you up at night. There are many reasons a guy doesn't ask. But if your scenario means bad news for you, don’t shoot the messenger -- we just want to give it to you straight so you can move on to bigger and better things!

He's too shy.
Guys act tough, but it's often just an act. And, believe it or not, girls can be so intimidating! If you suspect he'd rather stay home than ask you to prom, go ahead and do the asking. But you might want to scope out the situation through his friends or friends of friends first. Those quiet ones are tough to read!

He doesn't know you exist.
Two truths: Guys are oblivious and they're often into themselves (or their other guy friends). Oh yeah, they're also into cars. And sports. And music. And video games. So with all these distractions, it's possible he has overlooked you (as wrong as they may be!). But the next time you have to present a book report in your shared class -- where you have to put yourself in his sightline -- nail the performance with confidence and charm, and he'll take notice soon enough. If not, move on to another guy who will turn his head!

He's not thinking about prom.
So he's a procrastinator. About 95 percent of guys procrastinate (in our estimation). He might put off prom until two weeks before. Or he'll totally space and forget it until the week of. Whatever it is, prom's not high on his priority list. Yet. Don't take it personally; just drop a few hints and don't be rude. He doesn't know it might be inconveniencing you.

He likes someone else.
Guys can be pretty private -- even with their best guy friends. Boys do crush on girls, but they can be good at hiding it. Of course, you can't watch him interact with others 24/7, so it's hard to say. But if the thought keeps popping into your head, set your sights on someone else. Oftentimes, that's when a guy notices you -- when you're not paying attention to him. But whatever happens, don't beat yourself up about it. This one is out of your control. His loss.

He's dying to ask you -- he just needs a little encouragement.
"A little encouragement" does not mean you should do the work of asking for him. (Not yet, anyway.) A lot of guys like to have the satisfaction of having done something challenging (like getting up the nerve to talk to you). Next time you're chatting, casually bring up prom and smile at him -- or even ask his friends if he has a date. He'll get the picture soon enough!
