Wearing a flower or corsage in your hair: COOL!
Most hair accessories are a "do." A flower in your hair is like wearing an embellished headband (also cool) without the band. Just be sure you don't over-accessorize. If you've got a giant hibiscus on your head, back off from the big earrings.

Wearing a super-revealing dress: LAME!
You don't have to reveal all in order to look good. Sure, showing off your assets is awesome, but exposing everything makes some people -- not just chaperones -- feel uncomfortable. Instead, leave your date and everyone else guessing.

Eating fast food in a $400 dress: COOL!
Making a run for the border or hitting a drive-thru in a ball gown says you're low-maintenance. Of course, it's okay to suggest a nice sit-down dinner before the dance, but if no one's into it, remember that there are plenty of other fancy dinners in your future. Eating a slice of pizza or sharing a basket of cheese fries with your date is fun, and on prom night, the meal itself really doesn't matter. Just be careful of one thing: If you spill hot sauce, the dry-cleaning bill might cost more than that soft taco.

Grinding on the dance floor and making out: LAME!
You'll probably do a little dirty dancing, but simulating a porno in front of your principal or getting sloppy with the "heavy petting" tends to gross people out. Of course, we also think it's lame when other people shout, "Get a room!"

Matching with your date: COOL!
Being matchy-matchy might not fit your personality, but if the thought of coordinating your dress with his vest or wearing the same kind of flower in your corsage as the one in his bout gives you thrills, do it! It's sorta retro. In fact, it reminds us of Mad Men, which isn't a bad thing at all.

Touching up your makeup in public: LAME!
Leave the primping and fluffing to the confines of the restroom. Putting on lipstick at the table is distracting to others and shows a concern for your looks…kinda translates to insecurity. You don't need more blush. Just laugh at the conversation and you'll be naturally flushed.

Chivalry: COOL!
A date who opens doors, holds the elevator, and pulls out chairs for you is a total gentleman. Courteous and considerate behavior makes us feel special. But if it makes you feel challenged, like you can't open your own door, just say, "Thanks, I got it!" Be firm and he won't do it again.

Asking another girl's date to dance with you: COOL!
If you think the girl won't mind and you know it won't hurt your date's feelings, go for it. Just don't do it with malicious intent. Remember, some girls have built up prom in their minds as the completely perfect night, so they might get a bit territorial, jealous, and silly. Approach with caution.
