Even if you've never paid attention in art class, you're going to want to take notes on these complementary colors. This lesson is all about brushing up on the basics of coordination.

You're wearing white:
This natural hue looks great with anything! Play up your ethereal beauty with metallic gold shoes. Grab a black clutch (or another dark solid shade) for some extra pop, but throw on a pale pink cardigan to keep your look soft and girly.

You're wearing red:
With a siren red gown, it's obvious that you're looking for attention. Rich accessories in neutral or matching tones, like a mustard yellow cocktail ring and ruby gemstone necklace, will add lots of bling but won't distract from your dress. For your feet: Try a pair of metallic gold sandals.
Take note: Play around with hues in the same color family (red and maroon, sky blue with navy blue) to make your outfit match.

You're wearing yellow:
A party dress in this citrus color goes best with other juicy hues. A few orange and lime accessories, like enamel bangles or hoop earrings, and some glitzy gold shoes will instantly punch up your prom style.

You're wearing blue:
How do you make bold blue tones pop? The trick is to add equally bright accessories. A white belt and light teal tights will look cool and refreshing. Dark-colored heels, like black patent leather pumps, will keep your entire look grounded.
Take note: Neutral colors like white, gray, black, gold, and silver are an easy, foolproof way to pull it all together.

You're wearing pink:
In cotton candy pink, you're bound to look sweet. Add a bit of spunk with animal print accessories, like a leopard belt. An even brighter pink clutch will instantly amp up your style, while tan shoes keep your outfit from going over the top.

You're wearing black:
Like white, this popular hue goes well with everything, though (unlike white) this shade is also slimming. Pairing your dress with hot pink shoes will be ultra-sexy. Carry a navy bag for subtle sophistication and opt for silver accessories, which will really shine against your dark palette. Just stay away from orange; you're going to prom, not trick-or-treating.
